About

While Peter lived, the tortured man felt that he was a lion in a cage into which a sparrow had come.

About Peter Pan - Peter Pan is technically the hero of the novel, although he can be childlike and very selfish at times. But he is nearly always happy-go-lucky. Peter flew away from his mother when he was one week old, and since lived in Kensington Gardens and later in the Neverland. He has a wildness and cockiness about him that is entrancing to some - like Wendy Darling - and utterly annoying to others...like Captain Hook. Peter never knew his parents and is insecure in this fact, and Captain Hook can use it against him. His self-assuredness can also get him into sticky spots. But Peter's ultimate faith in what is fair and good helps him persevere and get out of mischief.
About Captain Hook - Captain Hook has an uncertain past as well - and he bears remarkable resemblance to the author of the book. All that is known of his history is an attendance to Eton College, and the call for "good form" that taunts him in his times of villainy. With long black hair, a pale visage, and a cruel iron claw, Captain Hook is a formidable adversary for Peter - or at least Peter pretends he is.

Peter vs. Hook - The rivalry between these two began when Peter, in a battle, cut off Hook's right hand and fed it to a crocodile. Hook replaced it with an iron claw which he has actually come to prefer, but he loathes the principle of the thing, especially since the island's crocodile now hungers for a taste of the pirate. Peter battles Hook just because he enjoys it, but Hook hates Peter's youth, happiness, and freedom. The true battle begins when Hook kidnaps Wendy Darling and the Lost Boys and tries to poison Peter. With the help of Tinker Bell, Peter survives, but he swears this will be the last battle he has with Hook - it is "Hook or him, this time".
